Bug hunting and pond dipping

Open to accompanied children aged 6 - 12 years and will involve learning about insects through bug hunts, pond dipping, river paddling, collection and ID.

Beginners' fishing

Please come along to our Beginners' Fishing sessions at Bartley Mill Farm.

The event is open to children aged 6 - 12 years and will involve learning about how to get started on pond and lake fishing, including how to set up a rod, attach the line, all about bait, attaching bait, what fish you are going after, good fishing technique.
All equipment will be provided, and there will be items to buy at the end of the session.

Woodsman's skills
Bartley Mill Farm
Please come along to our Forest Skills sessions at Bartley Mill Farm.
*Booking is essential.*
The event is open to children aged 8 - 14 years (advised) and will involve learning about how to use basic woodwork tools, care and maintenance and safety. You will learn how to whittle a simple stick, how to make a wooden mallet, and about various types of wood and how to use it, and ID of trees on the farm in leaf. There will be a bonfire and at the end, marshmallows to eat off the stick made earlier.
All equipment and tools will be provided, and there will be items to buy at the end of the session, including a round-tipped Opinel knife for further whittling at home.

Wild survival skills
Bartley Mill Farm
During the holidays, please come along to our Wild Survival Skills sessions at Bartley Mill.
*Booking is essential.*
The event is open to children aged 6 - 14 years and will involve learning simple survival skills and safety. You will learn how to light a campfire, how to make a shelter, and about various types of resources found in the woods and how to use them, and simple ID of animal tracks. You will be cooking over the fire and learning safe ways of finding drinking water.
All equipment and tools will be provided, and there will be items to buy at the end of the session, including a flint and steel kit.

Intermediate fishing

Please come along to our Intermediate Fishing sessions at Bartley Mill Farm.
*Booking is essential.*
The event is open to children aged 8-16 years and will involve learning about how to improve their pond and lake fishing skills, including how to set up a rod with a reel, basic knots, about bait, dispatching fish when that's relevant, landing fish, improving fishing technique.
All equipment will be provided, and there will be items to buy at the end of the session.

Gamekeeper's day

Please come along to our Gamekeeper's sessions at Bartley Mill Farm.
*Booking is essential.*
The event is open to children aged 8 - 16 years (advised) and will involve learning how to ID game birds and animals. You will learn how to hygienically prepare your game, plucking, gutting, paunching and skinning, depending on the species. There will be a campfire and recipes to follow to produce an edible and tasty meal.
All equipment and tools will be provided, and there will be items to buy at the end of the session..

Nature trail
Bartley Mill Farm
Please enjoy our Nature Trail sessions at Bartley Mill.
*Booking is essential.*
The Nature trail is open to adults and children of all ages, and involves a gentle self-guided 1.5 hour walk around our farm. You can bring your dog(s) as long as they are kept on the lead and you clean up after them, using our bins and bags provided. You will need to wear waterproof walking boots or wellies, as parts of our farm are damp. Our cattle will be in part of the fields not crossed by the Trail, and will be behind an electric fence. The fee paid goes towards parking and maintenance of the trail. Max 4 people and 2 dogs per car please.

Please come along to our Autumn bulb planting sessions at Bartley Mill Farmhouse.

The event is open to adults and will involve learning about how to prepare beds for autumn planting, what types of bulbs and where to buy them, how to design a colour scheme, companion planting and then how to plant the bulbs.
All equipment will be provided, and there will be items to buy at the end of the session.

Please come along to our Wild Weald Weekend camping sessions at Bartley Mill Farm.

The event is open to children aged 6 - 14 years and will involve learning simple and more advanced survival skills and safety. You will learn how to light a campfire, how to make a shelter, and about various types of resources found in the woods and how to use them, and simple ID of animal tracks and other woodland creatures, trees and plants.
You will be foraging and learning about what is safe and what to avoid. Basic foraging and hunting/fishing skills will be taught. You will be cooking over the fire and learning safe ways of finding and using drinking water. You will learn how to keep yourself clean when camping, and how to get a good night's sleep, all about fire safety and how not to leave any traces of your camp in the wild.
